Teknik Operasi Katarak Modern dengan Fakoemulsifikasi

Katarak merupakan kondisi yang mengganggu fungsi penglihatan yang ditandai dengan lensa mata yang menjadi keruh dan sulit ditembus cahaya, sehingga mengakibatkan penglihatan menjadi buram bahkan dapat mengakibatkan kebutaan. Faktor penyebab katarak, antara lain :

  • Proses degeneratif atau bertambahnya usia
  • Riwayat trauma atau cidera pada mata
  • Gangguan metabolisme
  • Paparan sinar radiasi dan sinar UV yang langsung pada mata dalam waktu yang lama
  • Penggunaan obat-obatan jangka panjang seperti kortikosteroid
  • Faktor genetik

Perkembangan teknologi operasi katarak pada saat ini sudah sangat maju, yaitu dengan metode Phacoemulsifikasi. Operasi Katarak dengan metode Phacoemulsifikasi menggunakan energi ultrasound untuk menghancurkan masa lensa yang keruh, kemudian menjadi bagian kecil, sehingga mudah di aspirasi kedalam mesin.
